My fascination with wood began early in life. I was around 8 or 9 years of age and a member of the Boy’s Club. It was great, as a kid, to have a place to go and be able to work on little projects. I continued woodworking in junior and senior high school with the shop classes that were available to me.
After graduating I took a job in construction as a electrician. I also played acoustic bass in local Jazz clubs. I studied music at San Diego State University for two years. Later I applied and received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston. I spent two years there. Then I spent about a year touring Europe with a Jazz Quartet that my friends and I put together while we were all at Berklee.
Upon returning to the U.S. I moved to New York. I continued my music career playing all around the city with well know Jazz artists. After a few years in New York I moved out to Chicago. I purchased a One-hundred year old Dutch Colonial home. I immediately set up a basement shop. I spent 10 years restoring my home and also honing my woodworking skills.
Over time I built up a nice client base for my furniture. I continued to play gigs, but I was concentrating more on my second career as a professional woodworker. I sold my home in 2005 and moved back to San Diego. I have a brand new “State Of The Art” shop now. I’ve been busy with spec. pieces for a gallery, Trio’s in Solana Beach CA., and commissions from clients across the country.
